Family Tuxedo Shirts

So, our group of friends here in Colorado have matching tuxedo shirts. We don't wear them all the time, but special occassions warrant us to wear them together. Today was Whitney & Brandon's baby shower, they are having a baby girl in late August. Well, today was the first time Owen got to wear his tuxedo onsie. Cute, right? It is hard to be away from home, but having friends like this makes it a little easier.

Owen is 3 Months Old!

Our little boy is getting so big, so fast! He is 3 months old today... last week at a his doctor's appointment he weighed a little over 14lbs. He also had his first ear infection, which was no fun! Even with an ear infection though, he still kept on smiling and laughing!

Snow Day... in April!

Owen's first snow day! I bought this snowsuit before he was born for $1.98 and had to make sure he got to wear it at least once! Fortuntately we live in Colorado, so we are blessed with crazy spring weather... which means snow in April! I don't think he knew what to think of this funny white stuff he was laying in. Still cute as ever though.

Happy Easter!

The Easter bunny came and visited Owen. He got pretty tuckered out from all the sugary treats he got!
Family photo on Easter. Thanks Grandma for the cute Easter bunny hat. Owen loved it.

Owen's 1 Month Old

Happy one month birthday Owen! It is hard to believe he has been with us for a month already. It has been the best month of our life. He is such a joy in our lives and we are so lucky we get to be his parents.
We are going to take his picture next to his sock monkey every month to watch how much he is growing!

Harley Graduates!

Today Harley graduated from puppy class! Owen seemed to enjoy the festivities too (see picture below!). Harley went through 8 weeks of puppy classes where she learned some basic things... she is doing really well, but she is still a very enthusiastic dog with lots of energy!

First Bath!

Since his umbilical cord finally came off, we got to give him a real bath. Owen definitely has his parent's California genes because he loved the water! He seemed so content with being in the water. Such a happy little boy!

Owen's Delivery

I have to start this post by saying my mom was right... her Jensen family genes kicked in and like her and my grandma, I had a very fast labor. By no means am I complaining, but it was a very scary few hours for Will and I. In the end though, it was all worth it. Owen is such a blessing and it is so good to have him here with us.

So, here is how the whole thing went down...

Early in the week (Monday) Will and I found ourselves at the hospital as I was having severe pains in my sides and back and had started to have some bleeding. At my appointment a few days earlier I was 3cm dilated, so we thought, maybe this was it.... WRONG! They checked me out and send me home. It was this week that I had started to go into "get this baby out of me" mode and was doing everything that I could to jump start labor. I went "running," walked as much as I possibly could, ate spicy food, etc... Grant it his due date was not until Friday, but I was just so ready to meet the little guy.

On Wednesday, March 3 I started to have minor contractions here and there, but nothing consistent. Later in the afternoon I was in a pretty large meeting at work and I started to have contractions about a half hour apart pretty consistently. I called Will and told him, but said there was no need to rush home. Still having contractions pretty far apart we went out to dinner with some friends (I had very spicy food!) and hung out with them at our place for awhile. Throughout the evening, I would have contractions and I would let know and he would write them down so we could keep track. At around midnight our friends left and we tried to get some sleep, thinking that this could be the last night we would be getting any good sleep for awhile! Well, sleep was a no go! Every 10-15 minutes I would have a contraction, which would make it hard for anyone to sleep. After breathing through a couple more hours of contractions at home, we decided to head to the hospital even though I my contractions were anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes apart.

When we got to the hospital it was about 3am. I got admitted and they checked me out and to all of our surprise I was 7cm dialated. The doctor was really surprised and shocked that I had walked in on my own, was not in a ton of pain and was able to chat with her at 7cm. They moved pretty quickly into getting me into a room and I made sure to tell them my mom and grandma had quick deliveries, so at least they had a heads up. A couple of the nurses chuckled and said since it was my first baby, I would probably be here for awhile! She was wrong! It was not more than an hour and half from when we got there that my water broke. I was starting to feel a lot of pressure and I looked to Will and said I had to use the bathroom (felt like I had to poop) and turns out my water was about to break. Weird feeling. At that point I was starting to feel a lot of pressure and I wanted drugs to take the pain away, but I was too far into labor at that point and they told me no. I thought seriously, NO? I can't do this. It hurt so much, but had to keep going.

The nurses told me to not push, but my contractions were coming so quick I couldn't help but push. The doctor that was on-call rushed in and said it was go time and to just listen to my body. At some point during all of this, I realized we had left the camera in the car since we thought it was going to be awhile. I told Will to go and get it. He laughed and said he was not leaving me. I told him that we needed it, so he ran and got it. I am pretty sure he was gone for less than 5 minutes as he was running the whole way there. Very glad he got the camera to capture those very first few moments. As soon as he got back was when things started to get pretty scary. Since my contractions were coming so fast, the baby couldn't keep up with me and his heart rate was dropping. They had me move to my sides and then to my knees to try to help him out. Didn't work, so they gave me medicine to slow my contractions down. It was from this point on that they had me push to get baby Owen out. Will was so great through it all and I had two rockstar nurses that were really supportive too. I remember several times saying I couldn't do it, but they just kept on encouraging me. At one point I looked up and it felt like there were 10 more people in the room. With Owen coming so quickly, many people were rushing around to make sure they were ready for when he came... no one thought it would happen this quick!

At 6:19am Owen David Dewese was born! I wasn't able to see him right away as the cord was wrapped around his neck during the delivery, so they had to do a bunch of tests to make sure he was okay. He wasn't crying at first (which scared me a lot), but eventually he showed us what his lungs were capable and that was the best sound I could have ever heard. When I finally got to hold him, it was the best feeling in the world.

So, that is it in a nutshell. I tried to spare you all of the gorey and gross details! :)

39 Weeks... Only 1 to go! :)

I can't believe Baby Dewese will be here in a week, well unless he is stubborn like his mom and dad and decides he wants to come late! I hope this is not the case. I am ready to not be pregnant anymore and even more ready to meet the little guy! Hopefully the next post will be announcing baby Dewese's arrival!

  • How far along? 39 Weeks... hopefully less than one week to go!
  • Total weight gain: 22 lbs.
  • Maternity clothes? Oh yes! And these days, all I want to wear is my yoga pants! I just want to be comfortable.
  • Sleep? Seriously, I am lacking in sleep these days. It is just so hard to get comfortable. I am hoping to catch up on sleep though as it would not be good to be sleep deprived before baby gets here.
  • Best moment this week? Hearing the doctor tell me he will be here any day!
  • Movement? All the time. I love it. Every one kept telling me that I won't enjoy it when I got close to the end, but I still love it. It's his way of saying hello to me every day.
  • Food cravings? Chicken nuggets and mac n' cheese. I hope that my son doesn't come out orange or looking like a chicken nugget from me eating so much of both of these things while pregnant!
  • Labor signs? At my last appointment I was 3cm dilated and 40% effaced... he is on his way! No contractions yet though.
  • Belly button in or out? It hasn't popped, but it is pretty flat. Not really an innie or an outie!
  • How are you feeling? I get asked this question about 22 times a day these days! I am feeling surprisingly good, just getting more and more uncomfortable each day. I know it will all be worth it, but it still hurts!
  • What I miss: Sleep!
  • What I'm looking forward to: Meeting baby! :) (hopefully sooner rather than later!)

    38 Weeks!

Less than two weeks to go... well, assuming he comes on time! :)

    Monday, February 15, 2010

    37 Weeks!

3 weeks to go... we are officially full term. Baby Dewese can make his appearance anytime now and he will be considered a full term baby. So, thankful that we have made it to this point. Now we wait for his arrival.

    32 Weeks and Growing! :)

  • How far along? 32 Weeks
  • Total weight gain: 17 lbs.
  • Maternity clothes? Yep and even some of my maternity pants are getting tight these days!
  • Sleep? What is that? I am getting some sleep, but it's not very good sleep! If I am not waking up every few hours to pee, I am waking up from my crazy dreams or from being so stinkin' hot! I have constantly been dreaming about where my water breaks and let me tell you they are not so great places. My biggest fear is being in a meeting with a student when my water breaks. UGH. How embarrassing would that be?
  • Best moment this week? Seeing my stomach move! It is so crazy to watch the little guy move around through my belly. We are convinced that he will either be a boxer or a soccer player, because he sure knows how to throw punches and kick!
  • Movement? All the time. I love it. Every one keeps telling me that I won't enjoy when I get close to the end, but right now I love it. It is just a happy little reminder that the little guy is doing good and is just saying hi!
  • Food cravings? Chicken Nuggets, nothing too crazy! Oh and Ice Cream of course!
  • Labor signs? Nope. Still a ways from that point. Although we are learning a lot about labor at our child birth class... scary stuff I tell you!
  • Belly button in or out? Still in, but getting ready to pop!
  • How are you feeling? I get asked this question about 22 times a day these days! I am feeling great, can't complain.
  • What I miss: Sleep!
  • What I'm looking forward to: My parents will be here next week! They are coming out to help get everything together and for our Colorado Baby Shower. I can't wait to see them!

    Harley's First Road Trip!

We decided to take Harley with us to California for our trip home to visit both of our families for Christmas. It was her first big car ride and she did great. We were so proud of her! :) Here are just a few pictures from her adventures as we traveled west!
